HR & Training Advisor


Salary up to £25,000

In this new role, you will have the opportunity to interact with all levels of the management team and employees across the Business, offering advice and support in areas such as employee training and development, succession, apprentice and graduate development, recruitment, welfare and general employee relations (including grievance and disciplinary).


Working in a small team you will directly influence the reputation and profile of HR & Training and therefore must have the presence and personality to engage with others through a confident and self managing approach to work. In this generalist role, your proven HR & Training experience will allow you to support the Company’s people strategies, allowing you to adopt a creative and innovative approach in areas such as recruitment, induction, personal development and skills training.


Ideally CIPD qualified (or with equivalent experience), you will need to be a powerful communicator with strong advisory skills, able to present facts and information both verbally and in writing. With an excellent background and appreciation of employment law as well as experience of working in a large complex organisation, you will also understand training and development processes and be comfortable liaising with external training organisations as well as a diverse group of training providers. A full Driving License is essential for this role as some local travel will be required.

Tasks
1. Advise and Support
  • To advise managers and employees on employment legislation, statutory procedures, Company policy, terms and conditions, contractual and termination of employment issues
  • To assist managers with the implementation of effective organisational change or restructure
  • To ensure grievance and disciplinary issues are handled fairly and consistently in line with legal and Company requirements
  • To support recruiting managers with their recruitment campaign strategies, considering the target audience and the most innovative and cost effective ways to recruit
  • To identify options for personal development linked to succession planning, Appraisal and 360 feedback outcomes
  • To co-ordinate and manage the Company’s CIWEM structured training programmes, providing support to mentors and students
  • To co-ordinate the Company’s Apprentice Programmes, through the identification and sourcing of appropriate and relevant skills training and personal development, acting as mentor throughout the Programmes
  • To support the Company’s Appraisal process ensuring consistency across the Business through benchmarking and providing guidance to managers and employees in the application and outcome of the process
2. External Liaison
  • To undertake salary benchmarking in preparation for external recruitment
  • To liaise with LSC’s, Energy & Utilities Skills, USIT and other training providers to secure funding for training and development initiatives
  • To work with local educational establishments to forge good working relationships and identify partnering opportunities
  • To source new and innovative training and development opportunities to meet Business needs
3. Health and Welfare
  • To liaise with managers in all issues of welfare, including long term absence
  • To case manage long-term welfare cases and liaise with occupational health providers to determine rehabilitation programmes and/or justifications for ill-health retirement / termination of employment
  • To prepare and submit for approval requests for ill-health retirement
4. Development Work
  • To support HR strategy by undertaking project work with a view to improving recruitment, employment management, retention and termination practices
5. Training Design & Delivery
  • To develop training and development programmes for new starters to ensure capability in role in the shortest possible time
  • To co-ordinate and support the delivery of internal training and development initiatives
